Three words that best describe you as a candidate:

Intelligent, Rational, empathetic

Experience:

25 years worth of Educational Technology experience

Why are you running?

I want to help make Pine River - Backus Schools a place where students want to be there, and employees want to stay there.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

What sets me apart from the other candidates is my Educational Technology background. I have a wealth more information than most people have on the topic and can share that insight to help make better decisions.

What are the top two or three issues facing the school district?

Our district has a big problem of being a small district, yet needing to find a way to keep student engagement high. A second large issue is this district has almost no public transportation and families are struggling to make it so they struggle to be able to pick kids up, providing rides for after school activities is a challenge.

What are your plans to address those issues?

We need to embrace some less conventional and more modern ways to keep student engagement high, I have long supported giving students more control over their learning while still guiding them with some structure, while adding additional activities after or before school. Our district also has a great transportation department, we need to come up with better incentives for our talented drivers to provide extra transportation with appropriate compensation.

How would you prioritize area businesses, jobs and the economy?

How would you address the school district’s budget needs?

Our district has lots of spending habits on products or services that I feel are wasteful. One thing that appears to be constantly overlooked is our district is filled with talented entrepreneurs. A lot of products/services bought could be instead be provided at lower cost by local businesses.
